The festival of Raksha Bandhan is approaching but has anyone ever wondered why is this festival celebrated in the first place? Well, it all started a century ago when Rajput queens used to send rakhi to neighbouring rulers as a token of brotherhood. Although many countries have been following this tradition, Raksha Bandhan is known to be more appreciated and celebrated in India especially in the national capital- Delhi.
As modern as Delhi is, modern are the ways to celebrate our very own Rakha Bandhan festival there. A simple rakhi thread would do but if you want to celebrate Raksha Bandhan in style then there are a few things you must keep in mind.
First, choose a rakhi which is meant only for him. This won’t require much of your efforts as there are a plenty of different styles of rakhis available nowadays that you can choose from. For example, if your brother is elder and married, you can go for simple yet beautiful rudraksha, floral, pearl, zari and sandalwood rakhis. Or if he is younger and goes to school, you can choose one from the toy, musical or cartoon rakhis collection. Trouble comes when you have a college going and full-on fashionable brother. For him, it would be better if you choose one from the designer rakhis collection.
Second, don’t forget to send rakhi card along. Now again, you have to be very careful while picking the right card for your brother. For your kiddo brother, choose one of those fancy rakhi cards with more colourful pictures and drawings; you can also go for the musical card for him. Choosing a card for an elder one can be really tricky though! Pictures or no pictures, pick the one with meaningful quotes and words. Funny cards would do for college going brothers.
Third and last, wrap it with love. So what if you cannot be in Delhi with your brother on Raksha Bandhan, you can always make him feel you are there by sending lots of love with the rakhi to Delhi. With rakhi, you can include a customized card with his funny and embarrassing childhood pictures pasted all over it or you can choose to write a funny poem on him if you are a good poet, or not, does not really matter!
